We first meet Jan at Kadan Farms when we crossed him to one of our mares. When Karen wanted Jan started undersaddle she sent him to us. When he left to go back to Kadan Farms, I cried. I didn't just want a Friesian, I wanted Jan. Karen allowed that prayer to be answered in part later that year with a partnership and than the following year to own him entirely. Jan has made his home here at the ranch ever since.
Every horse on the ranch has their own personality. If I want a listener, I go to Jan. Jan loves to just stand close enough to be touched and he will drop his head, sigh, and look at you with those big, dark eyes and some how, everything is always going to be alright.
Jan is a very sensitive, quite horse. For his size, he is a bit of a baby. If Jan is at all insecure about his surroundings, he will move close enough to touch me and than he immediately believes everything will be alright. Jan loves people and I truly believe he remembers everyone who has taken the time to come visit him.
Jan is a pleaser which makes him a very easy horse to train. Jan breaks over at the poll very naturally and cleanly. He has a lite, uphill movement. These traits seem to come through regardless of what kind of mare Jan is bred to.
Jan is a dream come true for me, but his biggest success is probably all the dreams he's made come true for everyone else. Jan has been crossed to some of the most incredible mares and given so many people the most beautiful foals. We love hearing about his foals and their progress from their owners. I'm so glad we can share something as special as Jan.
